The Expansion Of High Speed Online Gaming..Even Rural Areas ...

Video games have been around for years, but the internet has taken them to a whole new level.? Now, gamers are no longer confined to

High Speed Internet Gaming Expansionsitting in front of their television and playing by themselves or with a group of friends in the same room.? Instead, gamers can now play all of the most popular games online through a high speed internet connection and take on foes who may be across the street or across the globe.

In fact, online gaming is one of the fastest growing trends in the entire world.? For example, World of Warcraft has over seven million active members and the total number of MMOG subscriptions is quickly approaching the fourteen million mark worldwide.? A lot of the excitement surrounding online gaming has been fueled by the growth of high speed internet service and access.? In fact, players need a high speed connection in order to have the most enjoyable game play experience. Without a high speed connection, the game is jerky and not nearly as fun and enjoyable.? However, some gamers don?t live in regions where they can get on DSL or cable and have been wondering about gaming on satellite internet service.? Traditionally, gamers have not been able to use satellite service to play a lot of games, however, that notion may start to fade away soon.

The main problem with satellite internet and online game play has not been with the speed, but rather with the issue of latency.? Latency is simply and expression of how much time it takes for data to get one from one point to another.? When you are talking about satellite internet these points can be tens of thousands of miles away from each other because the satellite is thousands of miles into space.? Latency then comes into play with online gaming because of the time it takes from when a player hits a button to when the action is performed in the game.? With cable or DSL service, the latency is virtually nonexistent and is between fifty and one hundred and fifty milliseconds.? However, the latency with satellite internet is between six hundred and eight hundred milliseconds. While this might not seem like a lot, it can make the difference between virtual life and death.? While the latency issue does rule out some first person shooter games, there are still plenty of other MMOG?s that operate very well over a satellite internet connection.

There are some ways of getting around the latency issue.? First, with new technology and quicker servers, the latency will continue to drop as much as physics allows.? In addition, players can also speed up the computer by increasing the total amount of bandwidth available. This may mean eliminating some non essential services in order to have the best possible speed.

Having a satellite internet connection doesn?t have to mean that you will never be able to participate in online gaming. In fact, you can do just about anything that you want to do over a satellite connection that you can on DSL or even cable. ?For the moment just be selective about the types of games you play.
