2008 Bouzereau-Gruere Saint Aubin Les Cortons | Good Taste Book

aubin

On this Burgandian label Bouzereau-Gruere is the producer?s name, Saint Aubin denotes the village in Burgandy where the grape is grown, and Les Cortons is the specific vineyard site where the grapes are grown.? This is a white Burgandy wine, so 100% Chardonnay is in the bottle.? A lot of Old World varietals, especially French and Italian, are based on geography and place, rather than varietals.? It doesn?t say ?Chardonnay? on the bottle, so it doesn?t hurt to know a little about the French map.? Check out the importer?s website for a complete tutorial of Bourgogne.? This website is a great resource for learning more about this region and its 2 varietals, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

This Chardonnay is done in an Old World style that I love:? integrated oak that refreshes the palette in such a way that I suspected stainless steel in post-production, not 20-25% new French Oak.? This is not a big butter bomb, that reminds us of New World wine making, but a refined, crisp Chardonnay without a ton of fruit.? There are hints of melon and peach with lots of mineral character that reveals its limestone and marl terroir.?? This is a great wine for a warm day.? I?m thinking to pair it with mellow cheeses, seafood (of course), and easy summer pasta dishes.? Or drink it on its own.
